Drogheda United have made a solid start to the season and travel to champions Shelbourne on Friday night

Owen Lambe is 5,165 miles from home but the former LA Galaxy man is at ease in his new surroundings, considering his strong Irish roots.

“My brother and I have been coming to Ireland since we were young,” Lambe, who has an Irish passport, told Mirror Sport ahead of tonight’s trip to champions Shelbourne. “I've two sets of aunts and uncles who still live here. My dad came from a big family so there's lots of family members around and it always felt like home coming here. Now that I'm living here, it feels like a full circle moment.

It was there that he heard of walk-on trials for LA Galaxy’s second team and Lambe recalled: “I spent five or six weeks there but was planning to go back to university. But they offered me a contract and I decided to sign. I spent two years with the Galaxy second team and made my debut with their first-team in a cup game, and scored.

“I've always wanted to come to Europe and I was trying to after my two years at Galaxy but it didn't work out and I ended up going to Orange County,” he said. “I switched agents to someone who was able to get me this move. They also had a connection with Trivela group , which is how it fell into place.”
