A driver in Co Donegal was arrested after being involved in a collision while five times over the drink-driving limit. Gardai arrested the driver, whose car was uninsured, untaxed, and lacked an NCT. The vehicle was seized and the driver will appear in court. Meanwhile, Gardai in Donegal issued a warning to Christmas revelers not to drink and drive. A learner driver was also arrested in the Stranorlar area for suspected drug driving after testing positive for cannabis.
This learner driver was unaccompanied and their vehicle was seized under the Clancy amendment. Gardaí remind all Learner Permit drivers that they must be accompanied by a qualified driver. They urge everyone to take care on the roads this festive season and avoid risks, emphasizing never to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This year, 18 people have died on Co Donegal's roads compared to just ten for all of last year. Garda Inspector Seamus McGonigle, Head of the Traffic Corps in Donegal, has urged both drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution at all times on the county's roads
