Although still significantly higher than other counties, Dublin's games development funding saw a decrease in 2024. The GAA's central accounts reveal a disbursement of €1,189,287 to Dublin compared to €760,424 for Cork and €197,116 for Fermanagh. This represents a 9% allocation from the total €13,358,603 budget, marking a decline from 11% in 2023 and 15% in 2022. The GAA's director general, Tom Ryan, emphasizes that the funding model prioritizes objective criteria like membership data and club sizes, aiming to ensure funding directly supports specific outcomes in each county.
Dublin 's games development funding dropped in 2024 - though it’s still far more than that of any other county.
From when the games development funding model started in 2007 up to 2023, Dublin received over €23m of the more than €75m that was channelled to that area, something that was repeatedly questioned given the county’s superior resources and ability to generate revenue relative to the rest of the country.
“It's not about artificially interfering to bring about what might look politically more acceptable. It's about trying to make sure that we're paying for specific outcomes in counties and we're funding the coaching and games plans in counties.
