Dublin produced an incredible second-half display to overcome a 12-point deficit and defeat Kerry in Tralee, breaking their long-standing losing streak in the town.
Dublin pulled off a stunning second-half comeback to secure their first victory over Kerry in Tralee since 1982. Facing a 12-point deficit just before halftime, Dublin rallied in the second half, scoring four two-pointers, including two late goals from substitute Lorcan O’Dell. This dramatic turnaround saw them overturn a significant lead and ultimately claim victory.
While Dublin had achieved League wins against Kerry in Killarney in 2010 and 2013, breaking their Tralee hoodoo seemed improbable at halftime. Dublin goalkeeper Evan Comerford, making his first appearance since the 2022 League final, faced a challenging first half. Kerry dominated restarts into the wind, and Comerford was penalized for time-wasting on a kickout, resulting in a point for Kerry. Despite missing several clear goal opportunities, Kerry built a commanding lead, with Paul Geaney scoring a goal to put them 12 points ahead. Dublin struggled to create scoring chances against the wind and, while they managed a few points, their overall performance was hampered by poor shooting. At the break, the score stood at 1-12 to 0-4 in favor of Kerry. The second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Dublin scored nine of the first 10 points, including two-pointers from substitute Lee Gannon and Ciaran Kilkenny. However, Sean O’Shea extended Kerry’s lead to four points after a three-versus-three transgression was spotted by referee Liam Devenney. Despite David Clifford’s entry onto the field as a substitute, Kerry struggled to find scoring positions against the wind. Dublin’s dominance on Shane Ryan’s kickouts eventually paid off, and O’Dell’s late two-pointers leveled the game. Luke Breathnach then slotted home the winning point, securing a crucial victory for Dublin and leaving Kerry facing a challenge to maintain their top position.

Kerry v Dublin: All Ireland Hopes on the Line in TraleeA significant fixture for both counties in the last decade or so. Kerry haven’t lost to Dublin in any of the years that they’ve gone on to win the All-Ireland. Recent meetings have been balanced with one draw and a big win each for their past three league matches. To date, they have both been competitive despite missing front liners. On a line through Donegal, they again look evenly matched – both losing narrowly. New players have got their opportunities, although Dublin lost David Byrne, Colm Basquel and AFL prodigal James Madden to hamstring injuries two weeks ago. However they line out, they will look to exploit the home side’s vulnerability to their defence being run at as well as defending inside the arc, as Kerry – counter-intuitively – have been a bit slow to take advantage of the two-pointers. Their attack, though, has been useful and Diarmuid O’Connor a standout at centrefield.
