The project will bring more than 3,000 homes to the site between Plean and Bannockburn.

A new “supervillage” between Plean and Bannockburn has officially been given the final go-ahead at a meeting this week - almost 20 years after first being mooted.

That paved the way for the development to finally be given the green light at a meeting of Stirling Council’s planning and regulation panel on Tuesday. Alongside the properties, various amenities will also be introduced at Durieshill including new schools, local shops and business park, civic areas, new playparks, community woodland and active travel routes to Stirling and Plean.

“We have worked diligently as a council, at a time of great financial challenge for local government, to ensure the affordability of our investment in this development without it adversely impacting other important capital considerations in the coming years. “We are committed to supporting the delivery of a thriving and sustainable community, with a forward thinking approach to the decarbonisation of heat and energy. Active travel infrastructure is vital, with walking and cycling networks within the development that connect to the wider city.”

The section 75 agreement requires Springfield to make a financial contribution to the council for improving local infrastructure - with the developers claiming it will bring £37 million to the area in planning gain.
