Anyone claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or who face a workplace assessment could see a change to their application from September

Any individuals making a claim for Personal Independence Payment or Universal Credit which includes a Work Capability Assessment from 1 September will now face a slightly different application system. And the upcoming change will affect up to five million applicants.

The changes, which will affect both PIP and WCA claimants, will come into effect from Sunday 1 September, as the government takes a new approach to its assessment systems. The DWP confirmed, last year, that these contracts would remain in place until 2029. However, the new Labour government will take a different approach. What's set to replace the current system? It's thought that a new system called Functional Assessment Services will be put in place from next month, as part of the government's Health Transformation programme. This new system will be based on a single approach for all benefits that use a functional health assessment.

Whether you get one or both parts and how much you get depends on how difficult you find everyday tasks and getting around. What is WCA? Work Capability Assessments are carried out in connection with claims for Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit.
