Sarah Drinkwater received PIP for stomach issues and was diagnosed with a serious brain condition. But then her benefit was stopped
Sarah Drinkwater is unable to leave the house on her own or without her 28-year-old son who is her full-time carer who helps her go to the toilet and get dressedfor stomach issues has revealed that when she applied for a change in circumstances after a serious brain condition, her benefits stopped as she wasn’t deemed ill enough.she is on more than 20 tablets a day, as well as morphine for the pain she suffers.
“My symptoms included coughing up blood and I had such bad burning pains, it felt like fire in the top of my chest. I started not being able to swallow or digest food and I had stomach ache all the time. Ms Drinkwater’s mother paid for a private hospital appointment to investigate her stomach and digestive issues and as a result, she was diagnosed with, peptic ulcer disease and a condition called pyloric stenosis, which means the muscle at the bottom of her stomach closes so food was staying undigested in her stomach.
Despite applying for a change in circumstances for her PIP due to the newly diagnosed health conditions, Ms Drinkwater was told not enough had changed for her “My life has completely changed and my son is my full-time carer. He is 28 and has to help me with things that I never would have wanted him to help me with such as going to the toilet, putting my trousers on and getting me in and out of the bath.
