The actress will exit the show following its 40th-anniversary celebrations. Her character's current storyline revolves around an unplanned pregnancy with the sinister Reiss Colwell, unaware of his role in the death of his former wife.
Soap fans were shocked when EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy announced she is leaving Albert Square after playing Sonia Fowler for 32 years.
Natalie grew up in Islington, London and has played the role of Sonia since 1993. When she first appeared on the soap, she was just 10 years old. Charles passed away three years ago aged 84, and Natalie paid a touching tribute to him on Instagram on his anniversary: "I lost my daddy 3 years ago today. It's just another day, but everything seems heightened somehow.
However, the pair went their separate ways in 2011, and Natalie previously opened up about her volatile relationship with Adam. "Ten years would be a brilliant time to do it. Either 10 years together or 10 years engaged," she added.
