Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following the incident, which took place on the N80 at Crannagh, Stradbally, Laois at around 10.45pm on Sunday
An elderly pedestrian has lost his life after a late-night collision involving a car in Co Laois on Sunday.
The male pedestrian, aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased a short time later and was removed to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise. The female driver of the car, aged in her 30s, was not injured. They added: "Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling on the N80 at Crannagh, Stradbally, Co. Laois between 10.30pm and 11pm yesterday, 23 February, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
This is the second collision to occur in Laois over the weekend. On Saturday, a five-year-old child died after being struck by a car at Kilminchy in Portlaoise at approximately 4.20pm.
