Electric Ireland and EnergyCloud Ireland are partnering to provide free hot water to households facing energy poverty by utilizing surplus renewable energy. The pilot program, launched with Local Authorities and Approved Housing Bodies, aims to expand significantly over the next 12 months, installing smart immersion controllers in homes identified as being in energy poverty. The partnership with Electric Ireland will result in an average annual bill saving of over €100 for eligible customers.

EnergyCloud has installed hundreds of smart immersion controllers across the country and plans to install several thousand more in the next 12 to 18 months. By heating water tanks during periods of low electricity demand and high wind turbine output, the initiative offers a practical solution to both energy waste and energy poverty.
