Policing Authority approves eleven promotions for senior gardai
Two Chief Superintendents and nine superintendents will be moved into the higher ranks in the coming weeks. As previously revealed by the Irish Mirror there had been a massive delay in promotions of middle ranked management positions due to budgetary reasons.
The delay hit the appointment of 425 gardai to the rank of Sergeant and had the knock on effect of delaying the promotion of 209 Sergeants to the rank of Inspector. Garda officials had requested the civilian authorities to promote 90 Sergeants immediately to the rank of Inspector but this did not take place.
A problem arose when garda management proposed the promotion of 100 gardai to Sergeant to fill the gaps left by those promotions. Our Irish Mirror Sports Page - which brings you all your Irish and UK sports news - can be found here. The Irish Mirror Twitter account is @IrishMirror while our sports page is @MirrorSportIE. Just 170 gardai were promoted but the remainder were left in limbo by the inaction of Government officials.
The Policing Authority has now cleared the way for the eleven promotions following clearance from the Government.
