Cooked chicken has also gone up by less, by 11 per cent from £2.09 to £2.33, while overall food inflation sits at 19.1 per cent.
And some Spam products have shot up by even more, with a variation including “real bacon” climbing by 24.6 per cent, from £2.07 to £2.58, across a smaller range of shops. But there is good news for those determined to grab a bargain, as you can still get Spam for as little as £2.25 in some supermarkets including Asda and Tesco.
Spam made somewhat of a comeback last year as Brits attempted to avert the cost of living crisis, with sales of the pink meat shooting up by a third, according toIt has even developed something of a cult following on social media, where TikTok chefs have pushed out recipes including Spam fries, spicy Spam noodles and Spam Katsu curry.
Others haven’t been so happy to see its return though. After adverts for Spam appeared on UK television on Thursday night, one Twitter used remarked: “Things are worse than I thought.”
