Due to the ever-rising cost of living, people are trying to find more ways to save money - but one trick of running appliances at night could be dangerous, according to an appliance expert

With the recent cost of living struggles, many of us have seen advice about running appliances at night, as usually the cost of electricity is cheaper after a certain time.

"In England last year, there were more than 1,100 electrical fires caused by white goods, including washing machines and tumble dryers. Running appliances at night poses an even greater risk as you may not wake up before a fire has taken hold of your home. The best way to protect yourself from an appliance-related fire is to avoid running your appliances overnight and when you’re out of the house, according to Paul.

Paul adds that electricity isn’t always cheaper at night and people should check what plan and tariff they are on with their energy supplier.
