Lewis Hamilton raced for Mercedes for the final time in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday and shared his final moments with race engineer Pete Bonnington
Lewis Hamilton and his long-time Mercedes engineer Pete Bonnington shared a final lap around the track together ahead of the Formula 1 racer's departure for Ferrari.
Amidst expletives, Bonnington appeared caught between tears and happiness. "I don't know why you hate testing, that is so much fun," he offered as Hamilton brought the vehicle to a stop. Together, they earned six world championships and 84 race victories, including back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015 and streak of four consecutive championships from 2017 to 2020. Hamilton's final outing under Bonnington's instruction saw a dramatic comeback from 16th on the grid.
