Social Media giants Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta, have shared plans to charge users €12.99 per month in order to use the platforms completely AD free

Social platforms Facebook and Instagram have today shared their newest plan to charge users a monthly fee of €12.99 in order to scroll ad free.

This means that users with both a Facebook and Instagram account will fork out €20.99 per month, or €251.88 per year just to use the social media platforms ad free. What is the advantage of paying for the subscription? Users who are willing to work out the extra cash will be able to scroll on their socials without the inhibition of ad pop-ups throughout their feed.

There is one catch however, as the ad-free subscription does not include a ban on ad-supported content from influencers. The price difference is said to be due to the 30pc charge that Apple and Google place on subscriptions which are taken within apps downloaded from their App Stores.
