Drogheda United’s Shane Farrell will finish 2024 with a League of Ireland Premier Division winners’ medal and FAI Cup gold.

Drogheda United star Shane Farrell is desperate to avoid a place in the history books as the first player to win a League and Cup double, AND get relegated in the same season.

Farrell and his teammates couldn’t enjoy themselves too much afterwards, however. They are back on the training pitch on Monday, ahead of a promotion/relegation play-off decider against Bray Wanderers on Saturday. Farrell revealed that his set-piece delivery to goalscorer Quinn at the back post was practiced over and over again on the training ground.“We've been working on it all week and usually try to get a block on the back post, but there's no block, but Andy's still managed to get in. Thank god he put it in,” he said.

“It's not even the winning feeling. The last time I was here I lost 4-0, I gave away two goals, I let all the Shels players, fans, Damien down.Sign up for our League of Ireland news service on Whats App Click this link or scan the QR code to receive the latest League of Ireland news and top stories from the Irish Mirror. “I remember having a chat with Damien about my confidence. He said, ‘You just need to pick it up again’. But I just couldn't get going. I knew I wasn’t the same player.”He said: “Kev has been unbelievable. Even before the game today we were in the hotel and he just grabbed me to the side and said, ‘You just do what you do’.
