Eric and Conor McNamara were penalized by stewards after Mount Ferns' performance at Clonmel. The horse finished sixth in the SIS Supporting Irish Racing Novice Handicap Chase and was banned from running for 90 days. The stewards ruled that both trainer and jockey violated Rule 212A(i) by intentionally or recklessly causing the horse to perform below its potential.

The father-and-son team of Eric and Conor McNamara were punished by the stewards following Mount Ferns ' run at Clonmel on Thursday.

The stewards found both trainer and jockey were in breach of Rule 212A by “deliberately or recklessly causing or permitting a horse to run other than on its merits”.The Racing Post reports that the jockey's rep said the instructions were to jump off mid division and to come with a late run, adding he was satisfied with the ride as the gelding was hanging badly right.

It added that the jockey confirmed the instructions given and said he was generally happy with the way the race went, however his mount started hanging badly going down the hill and turning into the straight.
