Several unions in France have called for cross-sector strike action

Brits travelling to France next week have been warned that they could face ‘disruption’ due to strike action and demonstrations. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has issued an update to travellers.

Several unions in France have demanded cross-sector strike action on January 31. It comes after a day of industrial action was held across France on January 19. The FCO advised holidaymakers to be up to date with the latest advice before travelling and be aware of any guidance issued by local authorities. Although details of the industrial action have not yet been set out, according to the FCDO the strikes are ‘cross sector’ so travel could be impacted. It said: “Several unions have called for cross-sector strike action and demonstrations on Tuesday 31 January. This may lead to disruption to services.

“Please check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities.” On January 19 a day of strike action was held across France in protest to plans raising the official pension age. The transport sector was impacted by the strikes with disruption caused to both the Dover to Calais ferry service and to the Eurostar. For more of today's top stories, click here.
