May is shaping up to be jam-packed with festivals and fun for all the family - from Limerick's famous Riverfest to Ennis' Fleadh Nua, the return of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as well as the FA Cup final, there is quite a lot to look forward to this...
May is almost upon us and with its arrival comes another month full of events, concerts, festivals and shows to check out in every county of Ireland.
A multitude of gigs and concerts May is shaping up to be a solid month for concerts and gigs with some major Irish acts playing multiple shows and a swathe of international talent taking on dates in the capital. From the Boss Bruce Springsteen and his legendary E Street Band to electronic pioneers Orbital, there is a lot to check out.
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will play four shows over May, kicking off on May 9 in Belfast, May 12 in Kilkenny, May 16 in Cork and finishing up with a massive Croke Park show on May 19. Just a few short weeks after Scottie Scheffler topped the leaderboard at the 88th edition of The Masters Tournament in Georgia, the second massive event of the golfing calendar is set to kick off, the PGA Championship - running from May 16–19.
The Indianapolis 500, which forms the Triple Crown of Motorsport along with the Monaco Grand Prix and 24 Hours of Le Mans, also kicks off on Sunday, May 26 - so May is shaping up to be a busy one for F1 fans. There are also some knockout plays on over the month. Marie Jones’ Women on the Verge of HRT, running in the Gaiety Theatre, sees two middle-aged women, Vera and Anna, who head off to Donegal on a weekend away for the annual concert by Daniel O’Donnell.
Revellers will be treated to concerts, céilithe, street entertainment, Irish language classes, Sean-Nós dancing and music workshops, storytelling, singing sessions, CD launches and more. For a full list of ticketed and free events, see here. On Saturday, May 11, the Bealtaine Fire Festival will return to Westmeath to celebrate the coming of Summer on the Hill of Uisneach with music, yoga, heritage talks, children’s games, fire performances and more.
