Armed clashes between two feuding families in Cork have led to five individuals being charged with violent disorder. The Traveller Mediation Service will attempt to broker a peace deal between the families in an effort to end the violence.

The Traveller Mediation Service is set to visit a number of men currently incarcerated in an attempt to facilitate a peace agreement between two feuding families . This escalation of violence has resulted in five individuals facing charges following armed confrontations at a bustling Cork supermarket.

In Cork District Court on Tuesday, Charlie Faulkner (18) of Meadow Park Avenue, Ballyvolane; Michael James Faulkner (26) of Garrydhu, Carrigaline; and Jamie O’Brien (33) of Ardmore Avenue, Knocknaheeny, all indicated through their legal representatives that they would postpone their bail applications until they have met with the mediation service. All three are facing accusations of violent disorder at Singleton’s Supervalu, Hollyhill, Cork on January 6th. Solicitor Frank Buttimer, representing the two Faulkners, stated that his clients had consented to meet with Christopher McDonagh of the Traveller Mediation Service while detained at Cork Prison. Mr. Buttimer explained that these meetings are scheduled to take place at Cork Prison on Thursday, but Mr. McDonagh will require some time to prepare a comprehensive report on the outcome. He proposed adjourning the case until Monday. Mr. Collins Daly acquiesced, and Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the matter until Monday. However, she cautioned that the mediation process aimed at resolving the feud between the Faulkner and O’Brien families may necessitate a considerable amount of time to progress. She emphasized that the issue of granting bail to the three accused individuals is distinct from the mediation process.
