Amidst discussions about the governing body's clampdown on swearing, Racing Bulls' principal Peter Bayer emphasized the importance of finding a balance that allows drivers to express their emotions while upholding their role model status. Recent cases in Formula E and world rallying have highlighted the challenges in navigating this delicate issue.

Racing Bulls' principal Peter Bayer said all parties are working towards a balance that allows drivers to express their emotions while upholding their role model status amidst discussions about the governing body's clampdown on swearing. Bayer, speaking at an unprecedented 10-team launch in London, revealed that the subject had been addressed at a recent Formula One commission meeting and progress had been made.

The FIA implemented amendments to the sporting code in January, imposing stringent penalties for drivers who violate conduct regulations, including the use of inappropriate language. A first offense in F1 now results in a €40,000 fine, escalating to €80,000 for the second offense and €120,000 with a one-month suspension and championship points deduction for a third breach.'We want to have a clear briefing of what should be said and should not be said,' Bayer stated, acknowledging the need for guidelines while emphasizing the importance of preserving the raw emotions drivers express over the radio. He cited recent cases in Formula E and world rallying as examples of how situations involving swearing are likely to be handled. While British driver Dan Ticktum escaped punishment for a profanity-filled outburst during a Formula E race in Jeddah, Hyundai's French rally driver Adrien Fourmaux was fined €10,000, with another €20,000 suspended, in Sweden for swearing during a live post-race interview. This marked the first instance of a driver being penalized under the new rules. Bayer expressed confidence that a satisfactory balance would be reached, preserving the entertainment value while ensuring the drivers maintain a respectful image.Racing Bulls' principal Laurent Mekies echoed this sentiment, stating that all parties were striving for a balance between entertainment and regulation, allowing drivers to express their emotions authentically while respecting their role as role models. 'I have every confidence that we will ultimately arrive on a good balance point,' he assured. 'There have been some ups and downs but I think that we will find a reasonable solution for the start of the season.
