Colm Markey has withdrawn his name from the selection convention for the Midlands-North-West constituency
Another member of the Fine Gael parliamentary party has announced that they will not be standing for re-election after MEP Colm Markey withdrew his name from a selection convention for the Midlands-North-West constituency.
Mr Markey had been a member of the European Parliament since replacing Mairead McGuinness following her appointment as an EU commissioner. He said running two candidates in the constituency was the party’s “most viable path” to retaining its two seats, and wished the remaining representatives well in their campaigns.
