Chris Barker dead: Former Barnsley and Cardiff City defender passes away, aged 39
The Sheffield-born left back made more than 500 career appearances since making his Football League debut for Barnsley back in 1999.
Barker's career got off to a flying start, after winning Barnsley's young player of the year in his first full season. Barker's former Cardiff teammate Joe Ledley wrote on Twitter : "Devastating news to hear the loss of Chris Barker my thoughts are with his family and friends, One of the most down to earth guys I’ve met. Will be truly missed. Rest In Peace barks."
He moved on again to Aldershot in 2013, where he later briefly took up the role of player-manager, before occupying similar roles at Hereford and Weston-super-Mare.
