A former shop in Co Tipperary has been transformed into a stunning home and crowned a finalist on the latest episode of Home of the Year. Claire and Sean Fox captivated viewers and judges with their vibrant and unique renovation, showcasing their creativity and resourcefulness in repurposing original features and transforming them into modern elements. The episode also featured a Victorian house in Dublin and an 180-year-old manor, highlighting the diversity of Irish homes and the dedication of their owners to preserving and restoring their heritage.

A former shop has been crowned a finalist on last night’s Home of the Year. Last night, the series returned to our screens on RTE One and viewers were in awe of the colourful and vibrant renovated homes. On Tuesday night, we saw Claire and Sean Fox from Co Tipperary crowned the first finalist of the series, which is now in its 11th year. Commenting on their home, new judge and interior designer Siobhan Lam said: 'This is fascinating,' while architect Huge Wallace added: 'It’s wonderful.

The colours are terrific.' Claire and Seán live in Tipperary in a former shop which they have turned into a home. The property was built in the 1860s and they purchased it in 2020, getting stuck into renovations the following year and creating a layout which suited them. They kept as much as possible from the old building, repurposing dressers, wardrobes and the original spindles from the shop. Claire worked with her dad, a retired engineer, to adapt a lot of the furniture, including making a backsplash from the copper water cylinder and turning a bunk bed into kitchen cabinets. The couple love how comfortable they feel in the home and are proud of the effort they put into every part of it. Siobhan said: 'I feel like I’ve stepped into the past.' Interior designer Amanda Bone added: 'When you look at each and every item, it has come from somewhere.' Siobhan said she found there was a 'playfulness' to Claire and Sean’s home, while Hugh said he felt the home had a 'real sense of authenticity'. Claire and Sean scored 25 points, sending them through to the final of Home of the Year. The show also featured a 180-year-old manor and a Victorian house in Dublin. Aidan O’Donovan and Barry O’ Brien in Dublin live in a single-storey Victorian Terrace in Dublin that they purchased in 2023 and describe their interior design as restrained maximalist and see it as a curation of their life and travels, mixing both personalities to create a warm, welcoming and colourful home. They love that their house is a combination of a sympathetic restoration with modern touches and feel that the home is a perfect reflection of them. And Ross and Susan O'Donovan from Cork also featured in the first episode with their young son, Jack. Ross inherited his grandfather’s manor house and farm, which is 180 years old and has been in the family for over 50 years. The couple are hugely committed to a sympathetic restoration, right down to the smallest detail. Taking the time and effort to restore many elements such as the sash windows and shutters, the original ceiling cornices and ceiling roses, and the original architraves, doors and rim locks. When working on the house the couple have made sure to complete works that will secure the home for years to come, so that it can stay in the family for future generations. Home of the Year airs on Tuesdays at 8.30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player
