New Home of the Year judge Siobhan Lam reveals how passionate the judging process is, the surprise of connecting with the homes, and the strong bond she's formed with veteran judges Hugh Wallace and Amanda Bone.

New RTE star Siobhan Lam has revealed that despite being the new judge, she wasn't hesitant to speak her mind and wade into any disagreements with veteran judges Huge Wallace and Amanda Bone when it came to fighting for a home she loved.

The acclaimed interiors professional, who is the newest face on the Home of the Year judging panel, also told how she was 'surprised' at how 'passionate' the judges got about the houses, joking disagreements 'happened a lot!' She told RSVP Magazine: 'It does happen a lot. I think what really surprised me about this show, and as somebody who watches it, is just how attached each judge gets to certain houses. 'You might see a house fall in love with it and kind of project yourself into that home or that lifestyle. I was really surprised at how attached I got to certain homes that I really, really loved or had certain design features I was obsessed with. And at the finale it really becomes very clear which home we want to go the distance.' The RTE series showcases Ireland's most stunning houses, and returns to our screens on Tuesday night for another year. Siobhan, who owns and operates a home interior store, April and the Bear, in Dublin's Rathmines, joins returning judges, Hugh Wallace and Amanda Bone, this time around. Speaking about judging alongside Hugh and Amanda, Siobhan revealed that despite being the newbie on the team, she was well able to speak her mind. She said: 'I think what kind of became clear from even day one was that, we come from very different parts of the industry 'Hugh and Amanda are architects. So they are all about architectural integrity, the location of a house, the natural light, all of these things, which are incredibly important.' Siobhan added; 'But for me, I am more focused on the inside of a home, the interior of a home. What colours the homeowners have gone for, the beautiful pieces of furniture that they have introduced. 'And I have my own personal style, so does Hugh, so does Amanda. So when it came to having a point of view and expressing it, we're very good at it.' 'Each of us will speak our mind. And we really do genuinely have very different aesthetics and different styles that we fight for.' While the judges were willing to fight it out for their favourite home, Siobhan says away from our screens, they have become close and developed a great friendship 'It's crazy. I think one day I realised, I've talked to you guys, the judges, more than I've even spoken to my husband this week. It was such an intense time, but we would text away now', she told us. 'When I was starting, I was quite nervous, obviously, because I was going into a show that's been around for a decade. Amanda and Hugh know each other so well. But they were so welcoming, they were absolutely lovely.' 'They showed me the ropes straight away. Genuinely, they were just so nice, really welcoming, and just made it very easy to kind of fit in. ' Home of the Year returns to RTE One and RTE Player, Tuesday, 18 February at 8.30p
