Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has died at the age of 100. He served one term from 1977 to 1981 and was known for his work on peace in the Middle East, human rights, and ending the arms race.

Former US President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100. The 39th president of the United States, who holds the record as the longest-living US president, had entered hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, in February last year after multiple hospital stays. A native of Georgia, he was the only president to hail from the state, serving one term from 1977 to 1981. The former president passed away at his Plains home at approximately 3:45 pm, according to his son Chip Carter.

However, Carter was able to fulfill his dying wish before his ultimate death: voting for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election in November. Paying tribute to the president following his passing, Tánaiste Micheál Martin said: “I am deeply saddened at the passing of Jimmy Carter, former US president and Nobel prize winner, at the age of 100. “President Carter truly lived a life less ordinary, with a deep commitment to peace in the Middle East, human and civil rights, housing, and ending the arms race between the US and the Soviet Union. “The personification of public service, his work extended to our own island, as he took the first decisive steps to proactive and transformational US engagement on Northern Ireland. This commitment to peace in Ireland endures today. “A humanitarian to the end, my condolences go to President Carter’s family, friends and the American people. “The values that a global public have come to associate with former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, for younger generations in particular, will have been through their awareness, and admiration, of the work of the Carter Center. These values were, however, ones that can be seen to have informed all of his life.” President Michael
