Research by MCL, an online car insurance firm, reveals that Fridays, afternoons, and secondary roads are the most dangerous for crashes in Ireland based on data from 446 incidents over a 20-month period. The data was collected through black box telematics devices.

Fridays , afternoons, and secondary roads are the most dangerous for crash incidents in Ireland , according to research by MCL, an online car insurance firm. Data from 446 crash incidents among its black box policy-holders over a 20-month period, from January 3, 2023, to September 3, 2024, revealed that Fridays had the highest number of incidents (83), followed by Thursdays (74) and Saturdays (69).

The most dangerous time of the day is between 3pm and 7pm, with 4-5pm being the peak time (46 incidents). Secondary roads had the highest number of incidents (141), while motorways reported the least with just 10 incidents. The data was collected using black box telematics devices, which monitor driving behavior
