Gardaí believe Keane was murdered as part of the ongoing feud between two criminal gangs in Drogheda. The officer leading the investigation has said the two feuding criminal gangs are intent on inflicting maximum damage on each other, and that gardaí are dealing with an unacceptable level of violence.
He said Keane's murder, the dismemberment of his body and the dissemination of his remains represent a level of brutality and savagery completely unacceptable in any democratic society.
