Craig Halliwell passed peacefully away with his family by his side at the age of 84
A kind-hearted resident has organised an event to raise funds for a cancer research charity in memory of his grandfather.
The beloved father-of-four was a keen sportsman and played football for Burnley reserves and Accrington Stanley, he played cricket at Enfield and was a keen golfer and member of Great Harwood Golf Club where he was the former Captain in 2001. Edson, who is a management accountant at Southway Housing Trust in Didsbury, said: “My grandad was very family orientated and he would do anything for anyone.
“I want to turn a negative experience into a positive one and to do something for him as he was always about doing something for everyone else but himself. Everyone is welcome to join the event and it is free but donations are welcome on entry.” The gruelling challenge will be done over a course of six or seven days depending on the weather. Edson has also arranged to do some walks with friends and family to raise further funds.
