Tadhg Furlong has been ruled out of Ireland's opening Six Nations match against England due to a recurring calf strain. Jack Aungier has been called up as cover for the injured prop.

Tadhg Furlong has been ruled out of Ireland 's opening Six Nations clash with England at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Wexford man has returned to Dublin to have the injury assessed and the IRFU will provide a further update during the week. Furlong, 32, remains one of the best tightheads in world rugby but has endured a frustrating season - he has only played three games for Leinster this term due to calf and hamstring issues and played no part in the Autumn series.

Connacht's Finlay Bealham is once again poised to replace Furlong in the front row, with Leinster's Thomas Clarkson - who made his Test bow in November - providing back-up.
