Dearbhail Rodgers shares her weight loss journey and how Slimming World helped her achieve a healthier lifestyle.
A Galway woman has opened up about the changes she has made to lose a whopping 10 stone. Dearbhail Rodgers had struggled with her weight for some time, often turning to food as a form of comfort if she was feeling low. Her un healthy eating habits led to a vicious cycle, as she wasn't feeling confident or happy in herself, resulting in more comfort eating. She hadn't had success with various diets in the past, as she found them too restrictive and hard to stick to.
She was never satisfied while trying to maintain a strict diet, but now she has dropped a whopping 10 stone with the help of a lifestyle change. Dearbhail told RSVP Live: 'I knew I needed to make a change but was so unhappy that I would just try to make myself feel better by comfort eating. 'I had tried every diet going, losing ridiculous amounts of weight in a week by starving myself to achieve that result only to then go and put it all back on and more.' When her sister asked her to be maid of honour at her wedding, Dearbhail knew she needed to make a change. She had joined Slimming World in the past, but not stuck it out - however after seeing the success of a neighbour, she decided to give it another go. Instead of being restrictive like diet plans, the Slimming World programme worked for Dearbhail as she could still enjoy the foods she liked. By the time her sister's wedding came around, she was six stone lighter and feeling fantastic. “Slimming World is different to anything I had tried in the past,' she explained. 'It is a lifestyle, not a diet. Once that clicked with me, the negative thoughts and feeling of deprivation that comes with diet culture was gone.
