A garda has warned that the number of officers able to properly police the streets of Dublin are now "dangerously low."
And it comes as Assistant Garda Commissioner with responsibility for policing in Dublin, Angela Willis, admitted on Monday the force was "down on numbers we would want to have". That, and many other reasons, he says are why gardai are walking away from the Force in their droves - and they are now reaching a crisis point.
Garda Ferris also warned that there is no incentive for people to join the force - given the extremely low pay and conditions."For €184 I find it very difficult to see how you would get many 35-year-old men or women when you can get job seekers benefit for €220," he said.
