Wesley Kinsella allegedly tried to intimidate officers to 'use lethal force'

Gardai responding to a domestic disturbance call in Dublin “fled for their lives” when a machete-armed man charged at them, a court has heard.

Garda Sean Riordan said the accused was charged at Cavan station and made no reply. The officer objected to bail due to the seriousness of the case and fears that the accused poses a risk to public safety. The court heard they attempted to drive from the scene but were pursued by the accused, who allegedly used the weapon to damage the wing mirror, rear passenger side door handle and window. Mr Kinsella was arrested a week later after presenting himself at Cavan Garda station.

No weapon has been retrieved. The garda also voiced flight risk concerns because the accused had lived in Wales for four years. However, the court heard he returned in late 2023 and has been living with his parents in Cavan.
