GE Healthcare is investing in a new fill-and-finish facility in Carrigtwohill, Ireland, to meet the growing global demand for contrast media used in medical imaging. The expansion will increase the Cork site's capacity by 25 million doses annually and is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who is turning the sod to formally initiate construction works on the site today, noted that GE HealthCare has been manufacturing in Ireland for more than 30 years, and had invested extensively in the site in Cork.
GE Healthcare Ireland managing director Eugene Barrett, who is also the site lead, said the first doses from the new facility were expected to be available by the end of 2027.
