Harris County Commissioners Court live updates: Budget showdown continues as law enforcement funding takes center stage
in competitive races to keep their seats. Garcia and Cagle have each presented their own tax rate proposal.

For the owner of a $300,000 home with a standard 20 percent homestead exemption, the difference between the Garcia and Cagle proposed rates would amount to about $16, assuming no change in value from the previous year.If the two GOP commissioners do not show up at all today, the county will default to the"no new revenue rate," which freezes the amount of property tax revenue the county can collect, plus revenue from properties added to the tax roll this past year.
