Snow and ice: Drivers warned to take extra care in parts of Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Wicklow, Kildare, Tipperary and Laois
This time last year Ireland was in the grip of the heaviest snow storm in decades when the so-called Beast from the East shut the country down for a number of days. Twelve months later and after the mildest winter on record, conditions are a little more forgiving.
However, there is a sting in the tail. Met Éireann’s rainfall warning is predicting accumulations of between 25 to 35 mm. It says that the last of the rain, sleet and snow will clear into the Irish Sea early on Sunday night with strong northwesterly winds developing near the south coast and over parts of Leinster. It will then become dry in many parts of the country, however showers will affect western coastal counties overnight, some of them heavy with a risk of hail and thunder.
