It was ordered to head to Cork Harbour
This German super trawler has been detained off the Cork coast on suspicion of fisheries offences. The 'Helen Mary' was detained by a patrol vessel from the European Fisheries Control Agency on Sunday - and escorted to Cork Harbour on Monday.
The massive ship, which is 117 metres from bow to stern, was spotted by the Ocean Protector, a patrol vessel of the European Fisheries Control Agency, on Sunday. Staff approached the trawler and, after a brief exchange, directed it to follow them to Cork Harbour, where it arrived on Monday morning. European Union inspectors are leading the investigation, and the ship will remain in Cork for the duration of the inspection.
