Jeffrey Archer has published dozens of books over a 40-year career – but that doesn’t mean writing gets any easier.
There has only been one attempt to steal the Crown Jewels in real life, and that was in 1661 by Irishman Colonel Thomas Blood, who Jeffrey described as a “complete rascal”.“He was either on the king’s side or the rebels. He moved according to what suited him.”
“This man said to me ‘I can tell you how to steal the Crown Jewels’, and I had just started the soup,” he said. “When I read obituary every morning, there are very few people olde than me, so I think ‘Wait a minute Jeffrey, how much longer do you have?’,” he said.
