Welsh MMA star happy to call Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena ‘co-workers’ after epic fight
Welsh UFC star Cory McKenna is delighted that she gets to class the likes of dual-weight champion Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena as co-workers.at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.After springing a monumental upset when they first fought at UFC 269 in December 2021, Pena was unable to repeat the feat and ultimately slumped to a lopsided decision defeat despite her best efforts.
‘The Lioness’ was razor-sharp throughout the fight and dropped Pena several times but was unable to finishIt seems McKenna was one of many fight fans impressed by the bout and in particular the toughness of Pena who refused to give up despite being seemingly outmatched.. I feel like a lot of people would’ve broken, so I respect her for that. Yeah, it was a good fight,” the UFC strawweight told talkSPORT.
The currently unranked 23-year-old may be a way off competing in UFC title fights but says she no longer looks up to the likes of Nunes and Pena, as she considers them co-workers.
“Not in a disrespectful way, I have respect for all these fighters but to me, I find it kind of cool to watch these shows and they are kind of like my co-workers. “I’m like, ‘oh, I do that.’ I turned to my friends on Saturday when we were watching it and said, ‘that’s going to me in literally seven days’.McKenna is looking to bounce back from the decision defeat she suffered against Elise Reed at London’s O2 Arena in March when she fights Miranda Granger at UFC Vegas 59 on Saturday night.
