It’s been quite the summer for Irish rugby star Ian Madigan and wife Anna Kirwan. The couple, who recently marked their first wedding anniversary, have decided to settle in Belfast for good following Ian's retirement announcement putting down roots after Ian’s elite rugby career took him to clubs in Ireland, Northern Ireland, France and England.
Ian Madigan announced he was retiring from rugby after more than 15 years this week, due to injury but has insisted 'this is not a sad story' revealing how blessed he felt.
And speaking about his decision to retire, Ian told RSVP he would definitely be enjoying the downtime that would come with the news. "I’ll definitely play lots of golf with my friends and my dad, and you know, enjoy some time that I wouldn’t have had at the weekends with the rugby schedule and all the travelling that we do but then I'm sure I’ll get the itch to get back training in some capacity quite quickly.""It's been a game and career that's been pretty good to me and I’ve had brilliant experiences with the teams that I've been in and made great friends.
"I also love the game and have developed a lot of knowledge around the last 15 years. So hopefully I'll stay involved in coaching in some capacity and also some punditry work."
