Still, Laura is hooked. It’s not uncommon to read comments that are borderline silly. In response to one photo, a woman types: “I matched with him once. He messaged me but then I saw he was wearing coloured contacts, so I stopped replying.” Another warns a group member against dating a pilot. “I’m cabin crew and my husband who is NOT this man, has cheated on me for 17 years.”
But what about the women facing the often-exhausting perils of dating apps alone? ”I find it very insightful and supportive,” says Yvonne Lim, 25. Lim has dated one man discussed in the London group. “It was interesting to learn he had a dark side. It’s refreshing to see women supporting each other in navigating complicated dating culture. London dating is tiring. It creates an awareness among us regarding the type of men in London. Most importantly it is nice to know you’re not alone.
Williams has seen her ex in the group before. “I stayed out of the conversation because that ex was very problematic. But I have commented recently about different boys I have matched with on Hinge or Bumble. What strikes me is the amount of police officers that are posted about.”
