Ireland has implemented only one of 18 recommendations by the European Commission ’s anti-corruption body aimed at preventing corruption and promoting integrity in government and law enforcement, according to a report published today.
GRECO had also issued nine recommendations regarding corruption prevention measures in the area of law enforcement. One of these had been implemented, while two had been partly implemented.READ MORE: 'Ongoing' Garda investigation into murder of Eddie Hutch has 'advanced', inquest hears A similar recommendation for the introduction of integrity checks for secretaries general and special advisers was considered partly implemented, as progress had been made in relation to secretaries general, but none regarding special advisers.
They also included the strengthening of integrity training for gardaí, and the promotion of greater gender balance in all Garda ranks. GRECO considered that these had been partly implemented.
