Met Éireann extends Status Orange wind warnings across Ireland in anticipation of Storm Darragh, with potential impacts including fallen trees, power line damage, and severe travel disruptions.

Met Éireann has extended a Status Orange wind warning to the entire country as Ireland prepares for the impact of Storm Darragh on Friday evening. Two separate Status Orange warnings have been issued, both set to take effect on Friday evening until Saturday morning. The first warning applies to all counties in Munster and Connacht, expecting “very strong and gusty northwest winds” as Storm Darragh approaches from the Atlantic Ocean.

The public is warned of potential fallen trees, damage to power lines, difficult travel conditions, damage to temporary structures, and wave overtopping. A second Status Orange warning for all counties in Leinster, as well as Cavan, Monaghan, and Donegal, will commence at 10pm on Friday and last until 10am on Saturday. Additionally, an Amber wind warning has been issued by the UK Met Office for all six counties in Northern Ireland, effective from 3am on Saturday until 9pm
