World governing body FIFA have come under fire from more than 100 senior international players from around the world
Half-a-dozen senior Ireland internationals have put their name to a protest letter, which has been sent to FIFA , over the agreement which has seen Saudi Arabian oil company Saudi Aramco become a lead sponsor in the men’s and women’s game.
Saudi Aramco will be a lead sponsor of both the men’s 2026 and women’s 2027 World Cups - and the link has driven six Ireland internationals to become joint-signatories on the letter. “It’s simple: this sponsorship is contradicting FIFA’s own commitments to human rights and the planet.”
