Ireland's energy emissions are at their lowest for 30 years but data centre growth is risking ‘climate targets’ while the wind energy revolution is being stifled by grid issues, say reports.

“It is also likely that Ireland’s transport and electricity emissions will exceed their sectoral emission ceiling in the first carbon budget .” The study by University College Cork’s Professor Hannah Daly found electricity demand from data centres has grown at an annual rate of 22.5% since 2015 and by 2030 is projected to exceed that of the entire industrial sector.
