In a unique twist, Ireland's Late Late Show is taking inspiration from the iconic Christmas film 'The Toy Show,' allowing children to take center stage on this special night. Host Patrick Kielty is dressed in costumes, promising a nostalgic night for viewers who remember the original film. Kielty speaks about the film's impact when he first saw it at Downpatrick Cinema and the joy it brings to both children and adults alike.

We got to pop down to the set and chat to the man himself about the theme and he gushed about seeing the film for the first time in the Downpatrick Cinema. “That was the year where there were huge huge family movies that people went to see, I think that little element of nostalgia is something that kicks in even more around Christmas,” he recalls.“For the adults I think what is lovely about the theme this year is there is a bit of nostalgia about it, there are going to be some people who remember some things about that film from the first time around,” he enthuses.
“I know some adults watched it when they didn’t even have kids. Once you watch the Toy Show you become a kid again anyway. So hopefully there will be something for everyone there.”“What’s lovely about it is that the people who work on The Toy Show work on it almost all year round. So all that head scratching and coming up with those, I’m brought in at a later stage,” he jokes.
“They knew straight away the minute they mention what they were thinking about, months ago, and they saw the grin on my face,” he admits about the theme.The Toy Show airs tonight on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 9.35pm
