Met Eireann has placed two areas on snow alert as freezing temperatures, sleet and hail are set to return this week, with temperatures dropping to -2C.
Ireland has endured intense weather already this year, and as February begins, a new wave of freezing temperatures is on the way.
However, it's not all bad news as despite the cold, this week will bring mostly dry and settled conditions during the day - while nights will remain chilly, bringing the risk of frost and icy patches. Giving a day-by-day breakdown of what to expect, Met Eireann said: "Mostly dry, rather cloudy and becoming breezy Monday though limited bright or sunny spells will occur. There will be a little light rain or drizzle in places before more persistent rain develops in the west in the afternoon, slowly spreading east. Highest temperatures of 9C to 12C with fresh and gusty southerly winds developing, strong near Atlantic coasts.
"Becoming mostly dry Tuesday night with long clear spells as showers become isolated early in the night and become mostly confined to Atlantic coasts. Lowest temperatures of -1C to 3C with some frost and ice forming in light to moderate southwest breezes.
