Ireland is set to experience another cold snap this week with temperatures expected to drop as low as -3C. While this follows a series of harsh weather events, including heavy snow and Storm Eowyn, a high-pressure system is expected to bring mostly calm and dry conditions. Daytime temperatures will remain above freezing, but motorists and early morning commuters are advised to exercise caution due to frost, mist, ice, and fog.

Ireland is bracing for another cold snap this week, with temperatures expected to drop as low as -3C. Following a series of harsh weather events, including a heavy snowstorm and the devastating Storm Eowyn , which left thousands without power, the country is facing another winter chill. However, this time, there's a glimmer of hope.

While frost, freezing temperatures, and mist are on the horizon, a high-pressure system is set to bring mostly calm and dry conditions throughout the week and into the weekend. This means no major storms, heavy rain, or disruptive snow are predicted in the near future. Daytime temperatures will remain above freezing, mitigating the risk of a full-blown 'big freeze'. Nevertheless, motorists and early morning commuters are advised to exercise caution due to the possibility of frost, mist, ice, and fog.Met Eireann, Ireland's national forecaster, said: 'Largely dry for the rest of the week and the weekend as high pressure dominates the weather over Ireland. Becoming colder with frost at night.' Giving a detailed outlook, Met Eireann reported: 'Tuesday will start wet in most areas with persistent rain, gradually clearing to the southeast by noon. Sunshine and showers will follow, some heavy with hail possible in the north and west. Highest temperatures of 7C to 10C with fresh southerly winds becoming moderate to fresh, gusty southwesterly. Tuesday night will be mainly dry with long clear spells as showers become isolated early in the night and become confined to Atlantic coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of -1C to 3C with some frost and ice forming in light to moderate southwest breezes. 'Wednesday will be mainly dry with good spells of sunshine and just a few light showers possible near western and northwestern coasts. Highest temperatures of 6C to 9C with light, occasionally moderate southwesterly breezes. Wednesday night will be a dry, clear and cold night. Lowest temperatures of -2C to 2C with frost and icy patches and light southerly breezes. 'Thursday will be largely dry and sunny though it may turn cloudier for a time in the southwest with the chance of some patchy light rain or drizzle. Highest temperatures of 7C to 10C with mostly moderate, occasionally fresh southeasterly winds. Thursday night will be cold and dry. Lowest temperatures of -2C to 2C with frost and some ice patches. 'Friday will be dry with sunny spells and some cloudier periods. Highest temperatures of 6C to 8C with light to moderate southeasterly breezes. Friday night will be cold with frost and some icy patches. Lowest temperatures of -3C to 1C. 'Saturday and Sunday will both be largely dry with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny spells. A little mist or drizzle may develop in places. Both days will be cold with highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees. The nights will be cold also with lowest temperatures of -2C to 2C and with frost developing. 'Early next week will continue cold and mainly dry with light winds and day time temperatures of 4C to 7C . The nights will be cold with frost and perhaps some mist or fog.
