The National Emergency Co-ordination Group is to meet again on Sunday to deal with the clean-up operation as local authorities continue to deal with the clearing of roads of debris and downed trees.ESB Networks said close to 430,000 businesses and homes had by Sunday had electricity restored but “full restoration will take more than a week in the worst-impacted areas”.
Almost 140 of the water authority’s treatment plants had no power on Saturday as head of water operations at Uisce Éireann Margaret Attridge said they will be using generators to get supply back. Communications sector watchdog ComReg said, almost 300,000 fixed-line customers continued to be impacted over the weekend. A further 1.8 million mobile customers were impacted while the total number of phone and broadband customers suffering some degree of access difficulties reached more than 2 million.
