Tánaiste Simon Harris and Taoiseach Micheál Martin have expressed deep concern over US President Donald Trump's suggestion of relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Jordan or Egypt. They emphasize that the only viable solution for the Middle East conflict is a two-state solution with Israel and Palestine living peacefully side by side.

Tánaiste Simon Harris has warned that US President Donald Trump ’s suggestion of moving Palestinian people to Jordan or Egypt would be in “contradiction with UN Security Council Resolutions”.

During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, he labelled Gaza's condition as unliveable and suggested a search for an alternative habitat. Speaking on his way into Cabinet on Wednesday morning, Mr Harris warned that Mr Trump’s plan would contravene United Nations Security Council Resolutions, branding the comments as very concerning.

“When it comes to the future of Gaza, it will, of course, need international support. There's no doubt about that. The scale of rebuilding is on the level that, again, would be almost unimaginable only months ago. But it's very clear the direction of travel here. We need a two-state solution, and the people of Palestine and the people of Israel both have a right to live in states safely side by side, and that's where the focus has to be.

He said: “That's the reason then, why we need to double down on the ceasefire and make sure that the ceasefire is built upon and that the second phase is confirmed and that we get massive humanitarian aid to Gaza. That is the immediate priority and the reconstruction of Gaza.
